The Salkantay Trek is a breathtaking high-altitude adventure that takes you through diverse Andean landscapes on your way to Machu Picchu. In just four days, you’ll experience glacial mountains, lush cloud forests, tropical valleys, and ancient trails, all while walking under the shadow of the mighty Salkantay Mountain (6,271 m / 20,574 ft). This is the perfect option for adventurous hikers who want natural beauty, physical challenge, and the unforgettable reward of arriving at one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Day 1: Cusco – Soraypampa – Salkantay Pass – Chaullay
We pick you up early from your hotel and drive to Soraypampa, where our trek begins. After a hearty breakfast and safety briefing, we hike up to the spectacular Salkantay Pass (4,630 m / 15,190 ft), the highest point of the trek, with awe-inspiring views of snowcapped peaks. Then we descend into warmer, greener terrain until reaching Chaullay, where we spend the night in a comfortable campsite.
Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Day 2: Chaullay – La Playa – Lucmabamba
We continue downhill through the high jungle, passing waterfalls, rivers, orchids, and coffee plantations. Along the way, you’ll learn about local crops and wildlife. After lunch in La Playa, we head to Lucmabamba, where you can enjoy a short coffee tour and relax. Optional hot springs visit (extra cost).
Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Day 3: Lucmabamba – Llactapata – Aguas Calientes
Today we hike along an original Inca trail to the Llactapata ruins, a unique viewpoint facing Machu Picchu from a distance. After enjoying the view and lunch, we descend to the Hidroeléctrica train station and continue walking (or take the train) to Aguas Calientes, the town below Machu Picchu. Overnight stay in a local hotel.
Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Day 4: Machu Picchu – Cusco
The big day! We take the early morning bus to Machu Picchu and enjoy a guided tour of the Inca citadel, exploring temples, terraces, and sacred sites. You’ll then have free time to walk around or climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (optional, pre-booking required). The Salkantay Trek is a great option if you couldn’t get Inca Trail permits — or just want more scenic variety and flexibility. It’s moderately challenging due to altitude and distance, so acclimatization in Cusco (2 days) is highly recommended. The best time to hike is May to October. You can rent horses or take optional transport at certain points if needed.
