If you’re looking for a true trekking experience, this 2-day Colca Canyon trek is one of the most rewarding hikes in southern Peru. This tour is perfect for adventurers who want to experience breathtaking views, rural Andean life, and sleep at the bottom of one of the world’s deepest canyons.
Hiking through the canyon allows you to witness its dramatic geological formations, cross suspension bridges, enjoy natural hot springs, and spend the night in an oasis-like eco-lodge. With a moderate to challenging level of physical effort, this trek offers a deeper connection with nature and the local culture of the Colca Valley.

03:00 AM – Pick-up from your hotel in Arequipa. Drive toward Chivay and continue to the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint, where you’ll witness the majestic flight of the Andean condor.
Around 09:00 AM, we arrive at the trailhead in Cabanaconde (3,300 m.a.s.l.). We begin our descent into the canyon, hiking approximately 3 to 4 hours downhill to San Juan de Chuccho (2,200 m.a.s.l.).
Along the way, enjoy incredible panoramic views and pass through native vegetation zones.
Lunch at a local guesthouse and free time to rest or explore the area.
Dinner and overnight stay in basic lodging run by a local family.
Very early (around 04:30 AM), we start our ascent back to Cabanaconde, hiking uphill for about 3 to 4 hours. This section is the most physically demanding part of the trek.
Once at the top, we have breakfast and board the vehicle back to Chivay.
Optional visit to La Calera hot springs to relax and recover from the hike (entrance not included).
Lunch in Chivay (optional) and scenic return to Arequipa, with stops at highland viewpoints.
