The Short Inca Trail is the perfect option for travelers who want to experience a portion of the legendary Inca Trail — including arriving at Machu Picchu through the iconic Sun Gate (Inti Punku) — but without the intensity of the classic 4-day trek. This 2-day, 1-night adventure blends breathtaking landscapes, fascinating archaeological sites, and the magical moment of entering Machu Picchu on foot. Ideal for active travelers with limited time who still want a truly rewarding and immersive Andean trekking experience.

Day 1: Cusco – Km 104 – Inca Trail – Machu Picchu Pueblo
Your adventure starts early with a hotel pick-up around 4:00 a.m. From Cusco, we drive to Ollantaytambo, where you’ll board a train bound for Km 104 — the starting point of the Short Inca Trail. After checking in at the control point, we begin the trek, gradually ascending through lush cloud forest and ancient stone paths. Along the way, we visit Chachabamba and the impressive archaeological site of Wiñay Wayna, which offers incredible views and insight into Inca agricultural life. The trail continues through spectacular mountain scenery until you reach Inti Punku (Sun Gate), where you’ll catch your first panoramic view of Machu Picchu from above — an unforgettable moment. From there, you descend to the main viewpoint and then take a bus down to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo), where you’ll spend the night in a hotel. Dinner and time to rest.
Day 2: Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco
Early in the morning, we take the bus up to Machu Picchu to explore the Lost City of the Incas with a professional guide. The guided tour lasts approximately 2 hours and includes the main temples, plazas, and sacred sites. After the tour, you’ll have free time to explore on your own or hike an optional extra like Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (must be booked in advance). In the afternoon, we return by bus to Aguas Calientes and board the train back to Ollantaytambo. From there, a tourist transfer will take you back to Cusco, arriving around 8:00 p.m.
