The Lares Trek is one of Cusco’s most authentic trekking routes, perfect for travelers who want to combine breathtaking landscapes with the living culture of the Andes. Over four days, you will hike through valleys, mountains, and high-Andean communities where time seems to stand still, meeting locals who still preserve their ancestral traditions. The journey ends with a visit to the majestic Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, offering an unforgettable experience.

DAY 1: CUSCO – LARES – HUACAWASI
Early morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco for the drive to the Lares Valley, passing fertile valleys and snow-capped peaks. Upon arrival in Lares (3,250 m / 10,662 ft), we’ll visit the hot springs to relax before starting our trek. We will hike towards Huacawasi, passing Inca terraces and herds of llamas and alpacas. Our first night will be in a campsite within this community, where you will learn about local daily life.
DAY 2: HUACAWASI – IPSAY PASS – PATACANCHA
After breakfast, we will ascend to the Ipsay Pass (4,450 m / 14,599 ft), the highest point of the trek, offering stunning views of surrounding mountains and high-Andean lakes. We then descend to Patacancha, a community renowned for its traditional weaving. Dinner and overnight at camp.
DAY 3: PATACANCHA – OLLANTAYTAMBO – AGUAS CALIENTES
In the morning, we will hike to Willoq before continuing to Ollantaytambo, enjoying a route full of Inca history and architecture. From Ollantaytambo, we take the panoramic train to Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night in a hotel.
DAY 4: MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO
Early in the morning, we will take the bus to Machu Picchu’s entrance for a guided tour of the citadel, exploring temples, terraces, and sacred enclosures. You will then have free time to explore on your own or hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (optional, advance booking required).
